Vision Statement
Vision Statement, 2020
I view the role of the artist to be: a disruptor; one who makes the unimaginable; the unthinkable possible; one who uses their art practice to challenge and defy the status quo
And I consider the purpose of art to be: to evoke raw emotions, thoughts, and feelings from the viewer; to awaken new perspectives, to make one question; to give a glimpse into others' experiences; to create empathy and understanding
Becca Cerra LLC strives to achieve this by combining traditional craft practices with contemporary art-making approaches to create something truly unique and memorable. In 2014, she graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Sculpture. Today she creates metalwork sculptures and jewelry and also paints.
Much of Becca’s current work falls into one of two categories: conceptual art and functional sculpture. Becca’s identity as a queer, female artist living with mental illnesses and physical disabilities informs the conceptual art she creates.
She teaches Blacksmithing and Welding classes at the Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center where she also serves as the Education and Access Coordinator. She is passionate about increasing accessibility in the arts.
